The highest peak in India south of the Himalaya, crowning the Western Ghats.

Anamudi tops out at 2,695 m in the Anaimalai–Eravikulam highlands, the loftiest point of peninsular India. Its height belongs to the young uplift of the Western Ghats, though the rock itself is ancient — a dome of charnockite, a tough Precambrian granulite that resists erosion and stands above rolling montane grassland.

Its high plateaus hold the shola-grassland mosaic and the largest surviving population of the Nilgiri tahr, protected within Eravikulam National Park.
