A braided giant that drains the eastern Himalaya and shapes the whole Assam valley.

Rising on the Tibetan plateau as the Yarlung Tsangpo, the Brahmaputra swings around the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis and enters Assam, where it becomes a vast braided river shifting across a wide floodplain.

Its seasonal floods build and erase islands — including Majuli — and its silt, with the Ganga’s, feeds the Sundarbans delta. This outline covers the Assam reach.
