The ancient copper belt of the Aravallis, mined since prehistoric times and still India's classic copper district.

The Khetri belt runs along the northeastern Aravalli–Delhi fold belt, where Proterozoic metamorphic rocks host lodes of copper sulphide. The mineralisation is bound up with the deformation that built the ancient mountains here around 1.7 billion years ago.

Worked since the Bronze Age, it remains a cornerstone of Indian copper production, feeding smelters from ore drawn deep beneath the desert hills.
