The highest peak lying entirely within India, ringed by a near-impregnable wall of mountains.

At 7,816 m, Nanda Devi is the tallest summit wholly inside India. It sits inside a spectacular glacial sanctuary — a ring of high peaks enclosing a basin drained by the Rishiganga — carved from Himalayan crystalline rock uplifted in the collision.

The Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers national parks form a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the peak lends its name to one of the most biodiverse stretches of the Garhwal Himalaya.
