India's only actively mined diamond field — once the source of the subcontinent's legendary stones.

Panna’s diamonds come from the Majhgawan pipe, a deeply eroded volcanic vent of kimberlite-like rock over a billion years old that carried diamonds up from the mantle. Weathering has washed some into the surrounding Vindhyan gravels, which are also worked.

It is the only diamond source still mined in India, heir to the old Golconda tradition that produced stones like the Koh-i-Noor from peninsular gravels.
