Khangchendzonga (or Kanchenjunga) National Park in Sikkim is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique ecological and cultural significance. All statistics included in this reel are taken from UNESCO or official government reports, including the Sikkim Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP).
Arunachal Pradesh is still considered by many ecological studies to have the highest overall biodiversity of any Indian state. Sikkim, however, is recognized for having an exceptionally high concentration of biodiversity within a very small area, making it one of the world's most remarkable biodiversity hotspots. #science #didyouknow #nature #geology #biodiversity

There are other geological factors that also contribute to Sikkim's rich biodiversity which I could not include in the reel due to time constraints. For example, during the Himalayan collision, large slices of older rocks were thrust over younger rocks in a process called thrust faulting. This stacked together rocks of different ages and compositions, helping create an exceptional diversity of soils. Today, Sikkim has 78 soil families, which support a wide variety of habitats, vegetation, and wildlife.
A lot of geological factors that apply to Sikkim also apply to eastern Nepal and western Bhutan. But since I am covering Indian states I have focused in Sikkim. Although I would like to also focus on geology of other countries in Asia in future.
